Preparation
Things to you will need to dye your hair with Directions semi-permanent hair dye:
- Pair of gloves - rubber or vinyl
- Tint brush (optional)
- Comb (optional)
- Plastic cap (optional)
- Mirror
- PH balanced shampoo
- Dark Towel or one you don't mind dyeing the same colour as your hair
Before you start you need to wash hair thoroughly with a PH balanced shampoo then dry fully
PH balanced shampoos are available from health shops
Application
Directions will stain your skin, hands and everything else so make sure you wear rubber or vinyl gloves also rub Vaseline around the edges of your hair line and cover yourself up with a dark towel.
Apply to hair with a tint brush from root to tip until it emulsifies (becomes frothy in consistency) if you do not have a tint brush you could massage or comb through hair.
Leave in for 30 mins to allow the dye to penetrate the hair, some people have left it in for a few hours but its entirely up to you.
Wearing a plastic cap will also help contain the heat generated and will help the process.
Blow drying your hair on a low speed/high heat setting whilst the dye is on may also help, if you are going to do this make sure you don't splatter the dye everywhere.
Rinse thoroughly with luke warm water until the water runs clear making sure the water doesn't get in your eyes or or on your face.
You do not need to shampoo after you have rinsed your hair.
Dry your hair with your towel or optionally blowdry with a hairdryer on high heat.
If you get any dye on your skin then clean with a strong make up remover/face wipes.
Over the next day the colour will continue to develop and may become even more intense especially in daylight.
Aftercare
When you come to wash your hair use a PH balanced shampoo do not use a 2 in 1 shampoo i.e. one with conditioner, conditioner will strip the colour out of your hair in no time.
Directions is a conditioning dye with no ammonia or peroxide and will keep your hair looking healthy.
Tips
Shades will vary depending on the starting colour and thickness of your hair if you have dark hair you may want to get a lighter shade.
Your hair will dye easier and the dye will last longer if your hair is chemically treated.
If you are applying more than one colour then you must make sure that the hair is dyed and dried separately.
Warning
Do not mix with peroxide - Directions will not take very well to hair if directly mixed with peroxide so wait a while if you have freshly bleached hair.
Directions can stain surfaces and materials even the bath or shower when washed out of your hair - bleach will clear any marks left.
